BRAND: Married to My Work Gallery Showcase
ROLE: Creator, Curator & Designer YEAR: 2017
|
Married to My Work is an art gallery-based experience that celebrates the marriage of education and life experience. It’s a visual representation of the people and experiences in my personal life that had shaped me into the woman I was in 2017. This collection was curated in honor of my time at the University of Iowa and in anticipation of my career growing post-grad. Much like the new beginnings a newlywed couple may experience, this moment in time for me felt like a pivotal moment worth celebrating. The show was about self-expression and finding meaning in even the smallest of moments. First and foremost, I wanted to find joy in the process–my aspirational goal for all projects as a creative.
My goal was to create an experience in that all visitors can find a least one moment where they find themselves smiling and having a positive reaction by that standard, I learned that the event was extremely successful for many. There were a lot of hidden aspects that added to the user experience: the opportunity to write a loved one a letter, a place to sit and take a moment to rest, and a wish for goodwill and fortune in the form of a fortune cookie. |
Just The Beginning...
Part of the experience was the Married to My Work mock bridal magazine that I curated and designed. I’ve chosen a few excerpts from the magazine that highlights some of the work I accomplished while pursuing my BFA as well as examples of typesetting and print design. The content for these spreads is also a collection of responses and ideas from some of the people that have taught me about what life is all about.
